The MXGP Assen Foundation, organiser of the Motocross World Championship at the TT Circuit Assen, was honoured as "Best Organiser 2018" on Sunday evening 30 September after the Italian Grand Prix. On behalf of the MXGP Assen Foundation, Lee van Dam and Theo Verdegem received the "Award".
It is the third time in the four-year anniversary of the Motocross Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen that the organising foundation is rewarded with "Best Organiser" by Youthstream. Youthstream is the rights holder of the motocross world championship. On September 15th and 16th, 42,000 visitors watched the Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings win the world title in the MXGP; also the first world title ever for a Dutchman in this category. The province of Drenthe and the municipality of Assen awarded a grant to the event, with this "the Cathedral of Motorsport" is becoming increasingly popular with motocross enthusiasts worldwide. Customised for the 'Motocross of Nations' in 2019 For races in the world championship of motocross at the TT Circuit, the 'Cathedral of Motorsport’, a complete track alongside the grandstands was realised with sand from the nearby military terrain. Minister Bruno Bruins visited the Motocross Grand Prix of The Netherlands, an event with full grandstands and a big orange (Dutch) fanbase, looked entirely customised for the in 2019 planned Motocross of Nations. After 15 years of absence at Dutch soil, the 'Olympic Games' of motocross, in which more than 40 countries fight with their best motocross athletes for the victory, will be organised at the TT Circuit Assen, Drenthe.
