Exiting first day

The qualifying race for the best starting positions in the world championship motocross for country teams, the Motocross of Nations, was very exciting. On the specially created sand track in font of TT Circuit Assen’s grandstands and buildings, the Belgian team ensured the best starting position. Kevin Strijbos and Jeremy van Horebeek, respectively second and third place kept the Dutch team from obtaining Pole position. The second position of Calvin Vlaanderen and the third of Glenn Coldenhoff were equal to the those of the Belgians. The result of the third rider determined the overall result, which was in favour of Belgium. Our Dutch driver Jeffrey Herlings, who had to start at the 27th position had to pass almost the entire field and finished 5th, whilst the Belgian Jago Geerts positioned himself fourth.
Belgium and The Netherlands favourite:
On Sunday the battle for the Chamberlain Trophy will be between Belgium and the Netherlands, with third favourite America. With that in mind, the qualification on Saturday was the right example of what will come, since America obtained the third position in the qualification race. John Cooper was the big man, with his win the second qualification race. We can not wait to witness the three manches, in which a total of 34 countries participate, that will determine the result of the world championship for national teams. Team NL positioned them selfs on the podium in the last three editions but dit never win the nations in the 72-year long history of the event. Jeffrey Herlings, Glenn Coldenoff and Calvin van Vlaanderen will put all their efforts into changing this.

Ten thousands
In the meantime, ten thousands of motocross fans from all over the world arrived at Assen. On Thursday the event camping started to become full and on Friday thousands of fans witnessed the presentation of the national teams at the track. Many fans make use of the special camping’s in the direct surroundings of the TT Circuit, but also many Hotels, B&B’s and guesthouses all over Drenthe benefit from the Motocross of Nations. The 2019 edition of this event, organised by LDP international and ‘Motorclub Assen en omstreken (collaboratively Stichting MXGP Assen), marks the first Motocross of Nations in over 15 years on dutch soil.
